This has happened with the release of every new OS yet look how long XP's been around.

By agreement with microsoft every computer manufacturer has to sell the current windows version bundled with their computers, nothing new since the release of windows vista.

I'm watching for downgrade rights. They offered them for XP in Vista.

You have a wildly popular OS for desktop experience which is only just coming fully into the mainstream at 3, then want to replace it with a phone GUI for desktop experience?

Hello, market forces? Are you there?

I don't think it is any accident that both Win 7 and Win 8 were introduced in October, close to the holiday gift giving time. Does anyone remember when Vista and XP came out?

I don't think Windows 8 could make a big change considering the report that order of this new OS is not like that Big as Windows 7. I don't see a very big difference on Windows 8 compared to Windows 7. It only added the touch screen capability.

Dell on their USA "Home" website, they offer a choice of Windows 7 and 8. When customizing a new build, one has to be sure to look for the Windows 7 and Windows 8 choices.

If not, your build will default to Windows 8.

Windows 7 won't be dead for a very long time.
It's just that retailers are going to push Windows 8,
as it's touted to be the next big thing.

Maybe there is a thread. I read today that MS is saying they sold more copies of Win 8 in X timeframe since its release than Win 7 did in the same period.

I find it hard to believe since I would think more people wanted to move from Vista->Win 7 than from Win 7->Win 8.

They`re not gonna advertise a pc and say "Comes with Windows 7", they would just sound silly.

    Don`t get me wrong, I hate 8

And by the way, Windows 7, was my idea !!
