Actually with that post I'm willing to let it die. I'm sure we really both have better things to do anyhow.

Agreed. Just take away that I only want people to be presented with factual information to make their decisions. I do some part-time car buying for people, and I treat that role the same way. I present them with facts, and let them make the final choice on which car they want...then I'll work with them on negotiating for that one. In the end...they chose, based on facts.

Interesting. I did that for a while in the mid 60s in upstate NY. That was a lot of fun. Never got any money for it though. One dealer once put inflateable shocks into my Dynamic 88 convertible for free. I needed those because I was pulling a travel trailer at times.

I was lucky to have parents who schooled me on the game of car buying. Many friends, family, and co-workers never were, and would always pepper me with questions. It got to a point where I started walking people through the research and even going with them to shop and negotiate. I never got money for it, but I was paid in food and beer plenty of times...and was not one to complain.

Well it sure sound like you are bashing 7 in favor of 8. I personally have been running 8 in a virtual machine since the first release and didn't care for it then and I'm not going to care for it anytime in the future. I also have it installed on a separate SSD and I have plugged that SSD in maybe 3 time since I original installed it and got the start button back. Yes I have applied tweaks and done some settings adjustments and still find it User Unfriendly. That is my opinion, which you seem to keep trying to change.

Just why does anyone NEED a new OS? Simple fact is most don't. In fact most of the time a new OS just causes headaches. Between things being changed to how people use their computers to omitting features that were included in a previous version, like XP Mode.

Yes as another poster stated lets let it die.

No where in my actual comments, posted by me, was there any content to that effect. That's why I didn't let it die, because my points and my words were being changed and twisted.

That's exactly how I felt, and I also thought it didn't run very well in a VM. Many of the new shortcuts and mouse movements didn't translate well in a VM. It wasn't until I popped a spare SSD in a laptop and installed it natively that my opinion of it changed. There's a small learning curve that is to be expected with a new OS, but it looks and feels just like Windows 7 in Desktop Mode. Those are the comments that leave me scratching my head, because the Metro UI is just an option, and you aren't forced to use it. I rarely do.

I'll agree with you there. I didn't think Windows 8 needed to be "rushed" out so soon, when Windows 7 was doing just fine as is. If 8 wasn't such a good product, everyone, me included, would be screaming that it was rushed out the door without proper testing and time to mature. MS took a risk here, and lucky for them, the OS works very well. There are always headaches with a new OS, but that's what keeps us I.T. folks employed.

You have to expect anything technological to change. Look at how we use our phones compared to 5-7 years ago. Our home entertainment setups have changed as well. Computers are always going to be at the cutting edge of those areas. But I still go back to my point that you can still use Windows 8 just as you did Windows 7, Vista, etc. I rarely use MetroUI, and when I do...it's by choice. I could easily never use it. As for XP Mode, I always wonder if that was going to be one more area where MS is damned if they do...damned if they don't. If they include it and add features, VMware and likes take them to court. If they cut it down or strip it out, some of their existing customers complain. Either way...a large group of people won't be happy.

I think the OP might be a bit flabergasted over this thread's life. I also think 8's flamboyant tablet gui is butt ugly. The fact that someone needs 3rd party applications to make the OS look or perform the way they need it to or want it to operate is obtrusive.
Being in cutomer service / tech it is unwise to simply shun the 'new' OS. The software we support runs fine on it. But these are business applications. Users at work, not people interested in using a touch screen & mspaint to send a cute picture to their parents. It's funny because we get tons of communication about 32 bit apps on x64. Well that and being forced into a per-seat app managment instead of concurrent usage. Anyways it's not about 8, but XP environments migrating due to eol, to 7x64 for stability. Nobody realy liked Vista. The way I see it is if even a handfull of users get 8 dumped on them it should be more work for the team.

Some programs look ugly in the taskbar.
I'm enjoying Windows 7 and I really like how the taskbar functions (I use it as a application launcher pretty much, as an alternative to using icons on my desktop)... except with some software. For example, I have a game I play often. I pinned the updater to the game on the taskbar, since it's...
