    Windows 8 is so ugly

I may be on my own with this one but just wondered if anyone else thinks Windows 8 is so ugly.
The interface looks like something off a kids comic. I know it's designed to mirror Windows Phones but just can't understand the developers vision here. I'm an Android user so unlimited what I can do with themes and process but surely the buzz when using your PC is to experience difference. That's what W7 offers and as long as you can sync your phone what else can you want.
Microsoft has lost its way in my opinion.

I don't think it's ugly, I just think it's a total pain in the ass to use:) Just my opinion of course.

I think it is both, Ugly and a PITA. That is why I am not using it.

Agree it's a PITA. I went back to Win7 for some peace of mind.

Yeah its UGLY!!! been using windows 8 for 2 weeks and this is what I did:

I added Classic shell to bring back what Microsoft (and people on the a Windows 8 fan site called ) useless and outdated.

with classic shell you can boot to desktop ( Windows 7 Desktop)

Added NEXUS ( its like rocket Dock )

Of course there is no Glass ( AERO is gone )

Turned off Defender and using AVG free 2013 ( Defender was a pain and erasing non virus programs automatically thought Nexus Dock was a Virus LOL )

Windows 8 forces you to use a password to log in unless you take several steps ( more than 7 ) to turn off log on password

Even with User permissions turned off to Administrator rights you will still get nagged at moving folders around, a pop up will ask if its "OK" Administrator, your never the true Admin with windows 8 Microsoft Big Brother is in control in the name of security.

Lastly (Drum ROll here) when installing windows 8 Microsoft wants your Live Hotmail email account or asks you to make one and sets up the account ( the Windows account) as on the internet so your Laptop is expected to be on the net all the time LOL, you must make a "Local account" to be off the net not "talking to Microsoft"

That alone would keep me from Win8 (as if there weren't plenty of reasons already). I can't get a Live Hotmail account because it requires me to have my cookies enabled. There is NO WAY that is going to happen! It's MY computer and I will determine who puts what on it!

I agree that windows 8 is a terrible OS. I will stick with windows 7 for my purchased software, but they forced me to try mac os x to fulfill my needs of having the latest mainstream desktop OS. I have to admit that coming from the years I played around with various unix/linux software os x feels right at home to me. Sadly much more so than this "new era" of windows. Hate to see the old girl go, but I think she is dead.

Seems there are a 1000 of these threads on various forums I visit!!
Like a lot of us on here I've been through the CP, and RTM versions of w8 but only on a traditional desktop, and yes the experience was awfull and there is no way I would give up W7 for it...but....

I was Xmas shopping with my 11yr old son at the weekend at in Currys they had the Samsung touchscreen, all in one PC running W8. There was no one around so we had a play, my 11 year old was all over it and absolutely loved it (He has a Galaxy Tab at the moment), switching between apps, into the photo gallery, stretching and spinning pictures etc.

I hate to say it...but for him and probably a raft of other kids his age up to I'd say 18, this is the perfect OS. It won't teach him anything about computing, but it will more than fit the bill in the app filled, instant online world he will grow up in. Hopefully it will get people interested in computing because it's fun and not just a million lines of code!

I also thought it would goose sales of touchscreens but I don't see any in the stores here, just the Win8 touchscreen OS on non-touchscreen desktops where it is completely unsuitable for a productive desktop experience which has always been MS's strength.

Meanwhile the wildly popular Win7 OS just coming into the mainstream fully at 3 isn't even offered widely on new PC's any longer as though it's being phased out? Hello? Calling market forces!

You can get a perfect Desktop Experience with Win8 by grafting on the actual Win7 Start menu using Windows 7 Start Menu for Windows 8, which also shuts off Metro so that it doesn't load into RAM - actually making it a bit faster than 7 or 8.

Then add 8GadgetPack - Gadgets for Windows 8 which replicates 7 gadgets and you have Win7 with soaped-over window frames. This is progress?
