    Home premium would be my choice, but you can compare versions by visiting the following link;

    They're all the same. There is NO Lite version. Each install from all version contain all the same things.

    I'm not sure what you mean by "all version contain all the same things". There are features in Ultimate that aren't enabled or available in Home Premium. The files to run them are there but the features are disabled. That being said Installing Home Premium probably won't gain you any more free disk space than installing Ultimate. On the other hand, if those extra features aren't enabled/running, Home Premium may gain you a small increase in performance. I honestly don't know if its noticeable or even worth worrying about though. IMHO, If you don't need the extra features offered by Ultimate by Home Premium and save your self a few bucks.

    Right they aren't "Enabled" in HP. Enabled is the key word here. All versions have the same things in them. In some versions things aren't Enabled that are in other versions. You can take any version of Win 7 and make a Universal install version out of it. All you need is the correct License Key to install and Enable the feature in each version. That is Except Enterprise. Which is only for Volume license.

    Yeah, I guess it all depends on what you think the OP meant by "lighter". The install footprint or resources or both?

    Actually I've never installed HP or Ultimate, I use Pro, so I don't really know if the actual space used is different. But if it is it is only by a few 100MBs or a GB at the most. As to sys resources I would think all versions use just about the same, again with little differences between them. IMHO not enough to really worry about. If you are running Win 7 on a system that you have to worry about the sys resources or the little difference in disk space used by the different versions (If there is any difference) then maybe you need a better system.
    Just sayin.

    Years ago even up till Vista I would look for the version with the least amount of overhead, then kill all the services that were not being used and to top it off with a ton of registry hacks.

    Life is alot easier these days, has been for some time, I think of the time I used to toil with the OS, let's not even go to hardware, it was like a second job or hehe, or having an affair...........

    Home Premium is fine, I currently use Professional for there are some features I need [RDP]
