we have a computer at school that's being shared by young students, but they get a kick out of deleting files. they have a shared folder on a separate partition for all their activities. it's okay if they can open or even modify each other's files, but we just don't want them deleting anything. is there a user policy/security setting that can make this possible? tia
yeah. right click-->properties-->advance-->change permissions. select a user and the check box for full control allow/deny appears. just check the bottom boxes for file deletion. it seems like a new account appears in the permission window when you close the configuration menu, but windows has just split up the user into two groups: allow and deny. you can open them both and add the checkboxes for allow to deny, and the deny boxes to allow, but the user remains "split up" and those boxes won't stay checked, but the configuration should be correct.
Not really. Full Access is FULL ACCESS. You want to limit access. So you can have full access or select the limited access you want a user to have in permissions.
I was fairly sure that the method adnmance suggested should work and I just tried it on my PC to confirm it.
I created a text file.
I changed the Permissions, so that Guest could edit it, but not delete it.
Guest could edit it.
When Guest tried to delete it, an Administrator password prompt appeared.
