    Another Black Screen

It's to do with the black screen with mouse pointer. Last week unexpectedly upon restart I got the black screen. All I could do (no safe mode, no alt-ctrl-delete) was run repair. Repair found no issues. However, after running repair a couple times I was able to finally login. All was fine for a few days and last night upon reboot the black screen. Again I was prevented from accessing a newly installed Windows 7 x64. This time the repair solved nothing. I had two restore points. I had to go to the first restore point. That allowed me to access normal windows.

It is hard in a work environment dealing with a computer that randomly black screens for no apparent reason. It would be ideal if the computer simply responded to reboots and offered a normal windows session.

Is there a preventive measure that can be administered to prevent these untimely black screens? I have read most internet article/messages on this topic and I found nothing that explains exactly what would cause the black screen - and most remedies listed offer no real solution.

Let me know what can be done to prevent a Windows 7 Black Screen.
    Thanks

I just posted this message and a few minutes later took at look at the computer. Event viewer, system information. All looks good. I reboot and again I get the black screen! This time I go for restore and the restore fails to give me a normal window session. Evidently the restore wasn't the solution here. Now I am stuck with a computer that only boots into black screen. What a nightmare....because under the black screen is the windows environment and I cannot access it.

Ok I ran repair again and the message after repair scans says ' it cannot repair this computer automatically' and I inserted the windows 7 disk and ran repair again and it says ' it cannot repair this computer automatically' . That leaves me very few options ... no repair ... no restore ... ?

Is there mouse cursor ? If there is do this :
Press CTRL+ALT+DEL then select task manager
Click on File (Upper top left) then click New task
    Type msconfig then hit enter
Click on Tools then launch Command Prompt
    Now, type chkdsk /r /f
    (you will receive this message)
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)
    Then hit Y
After you hit Y type sfc/scannow
Wait until scan has finished then after finishing scan reboot your PC and let chkdsk do the job

If your problem still persists consult a doctor . lol

I suspect your motherboard has went bad. I had the same issue on a Compaq (HP) computer. Do you have an IT dept.?

    Hello
I kept fiddling restore / repair / and finally got into login. I ran sfc /scannow / and it finished. That I did.
The day before I did run chkdsk ... so I have done a few things. Today no matter what I did I couldn't get beyond the black screen with mouse cursor. I have only the current restore point. That fails to get me past the cursor/black screen. However ... I pressed F8 and chose 'Directory Services Restore Mode' and I am at the log in screen.
    That worked in today's exercise.

Thus I have found another 'entry point' into Windows. I will simply leave the computer running and do nothing until
I get a few tips. Now that I can get back in what's to do? Are there utilities I can download and run to check motherboard, hard drive and so forth? I will eventually need to format and start fresh install but if I knew exactly what was causing this issue that would be the best knowable. Thanks

Ezad just what is the model of machine is it? as you may try a factory default we need to know that to find the default key.

Usually you do this by power up and tap the F11 key it takes or should take you into the HP partition - but we need to know that model as they do sometimes vary.

Only thing is like Britton says it could be a lemon hardware somewhere, and I would hazard a guess at the monitor screen itself
