well,
this would be the most problem-free because the data could be written at the end of the drive too
and defragmentation and shrinking of the partition to make unallocated space fixes this

i think my way is the easiest
i think this will make it easy for him/her
so once again
umairarif
first defrag the drive
then
download
EZ Gig IV Cloning Software with Data Select for Windows
then go back into disk management
right click your c: partition and then it should come up with a menu, click shrink volume
then it will query for available space, then click next until it says finish
this way it will shrink the partition so the downloaded software above doesnt have any issues.
there will be unallocated space left at the end of the drive
do not worry about this
burn the iso file to a usb or a disk
switch your second hdd with the ssd
boot to the disk or usb
then follow on-screen instructions to mirror your ssd
then turn the computer off when completed
switch your first hdd for the ssd
then put the second hdd back in
there done.
happy computing
one last question, what is the lead called that connects laptop HDD via usb lead to usb port? because there are too many on ebay but I dont know which one is for laptop and which one for desk top. I think HDD for laptop and desktop have different pins so the lead should be different for these 2.
I think I need this lead to connect my HDD to my laptop and image files on it.
The USB ports are the same for a laptop or desktop. Any USB will work on your laptop as long as there is a way to connect it to a sata hard drive/SSD. You have received a lot of confusing info in this thread, and not all is the best advice. Like WHS previously said, the surest, safest and fastest way to do what you want to do is with Paragon Migrate OS to SSD.(19.95) It was made for this very purpose. Like WHS I have several computers and 6 SSDs. I have swapped SSDs between computers numerous times. I have used this program to do it and it has never failed. Three steps and in 20 minutes you will be using your SSD, and it will be properly set up, aligned. You have to do nothing except start the program follow the guide which is 3 steps.
Let us know where you are one this, anything which needs further clarification, how you think you might want to proceed.
Earlier you asked about Acronis True Image 2013 and received no reply. It is an excellent program which can image over the entire drive or just selected partitions. If you already have it I would use it. The Manual is quite easy to understand and we'll be glad to walk you through it. If you don't have it there is a free Acronis version available when any WD or Seagate HD is in the mix. The Paragon app has many happy users, too.
There was also confusion about whether you should include the Recovery and Tools partitions. This depends upon whether you want the ability to boot from the Recovery partition in case the OS ever needs replacement. You can make your Recovery disks to use for this purpose as well. Both options are described in HP System Recovery.
One other thing when considering how much of the HP preinstall you want to retain. Most tech enthusiasts will not run the preisntalled Win7 because it contains the worst load of factory bloatware in the industry. They prefer to instead Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to get better performance without all the crap that comes larded on top of the OS with HP. This is something you should also read over and consider. As we specialize in clean reinstalls here we can help you get the freshest start of all for your SSD by getting it perfect. You already own the OS to reinstall in what ever way you want for the life of the PC.

Are you installing a ssd in your laptop ? As you stated in your thread title, or are you connecting it with a usb ?
Try this link, just click Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and save the file to your desktop.
