    Windows 7 Start up error, Windows will not load at all?


    Hello I'm fairly new here,

    As to the issue: I turn on my computer and confronted with a screen that reads, "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

    It then displays two options: "Launch Start Up repair" or "Start Windows Normally." Regardless of which one I choose, the monitor ends up going blank a few seconds later after a loading bar or Windows logo. Nothing happens after that, just blackness on the monitor.

    I have tried going into the F8 options, and unfortunately none of them appear to be working. Safe mode, Low resolution, Repair your computer, and all others seem to fail. I have misplaced my Windows 7 Discs in the process of moving from one house to another and I am unable to get to the discs for a recovery.

    Is there any other way to fix this?

    If you do not have a Windows 7 installation DVD, you can download a legal copy with SP1 integrated from here: Dell Community.
    Make sure you get the same version you have, Home Premium, Pro or Ultimate and 32 or 64 bit. Note that Basic or Starter is not available.

    I recommend using ImgBurn at 4X speed (or the slowest available) to create the DVD from the downloaded .iso file.

    You can do this on any computer capable of burning a DVD.

    For techies or folks who work on computers: Create Windows 7 Universal ISO With All Editions Selection On Install with ei.cfg Removal Utility.
    This will fit on a 6GB flash drive or can be burned to a DVD.

    Startup Repair from disk should automate System Restore but if not run it manually from the Recovery Options list.

    If that fails work through these steps which cover everything possible for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start

    I manage to burn the iso to a disc, now I just have to boot my computer to the disc. And using my fairly moderate knowledge of computers I would do this in the F12 menu upon start up. Is this correct?

    Yes, tap the key vigorously as soon as you reboot the PC, choose the DVD drive to boot.

    The F12 Option menu will not pop up and I have tapped the button continuously for a few minutes, restarting if it never shows up. Any advice?

    *Edit*
    It now appears to be working.. I clicked F10 several times and it brought me to my motherboard set up, and allowed me to choose a boot device. I will state what happens.

    The installation screen appeared. I clicked "Repair your computer" option, yet nothing has happened. The screen remains a blue background.

    Are you sure you downloaded fully the ISO and burned to DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed? Will it boot and run Repair in another PC?

    In that case back out of it and run the Hardware tests in the forenote of Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start.

    After that reset the CMOS and try again: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS
