Finding And Deleting Duplicate Photos ?

    Hello,

I have "many" Folders with perhaps 50-100 photos in each.
Would like to clean things up a bit.

What is the most practical way of doing a Search (and a Delete) of duplicate photos ?
(the duplicates may be in different Folders, or the same Folder)

    Thanks,
    Bob

The only way i can think is get to the photo and delete it with (shift key)+(Delete key) I don't think it is possible to do what you are looking for within different folders. But i could be wrong maybe if they had the same name or something like that maybe there is a way but not that i know of. I just did a backup last week for a user and had to go through 15,333 photo's

Here's a free program that works very well as it can actually compare the photos based on their content, not just their name, to find duplicates. Awesome Duplicate Photo Finder - Find and Remove Duplicate or Similar Images

Clonespy is another good one. I usually used it on bunches of documents (doc and pdf), but can do it on any file, really.

in either case, just do some practice on a dummy folder to make sure you don't trash the wrong things.

+1, this is the best one I have ever found. Does an easy job. I have over 9000 pics in 55 folders. It found a lot of duplicates. And it gives you the % of similarity. Sometimes pics are only x% similar because you might have e.g. cropped the original.

I use a software called "Photo Vacuum Packer" that claims to find duplicates images and compressing them to use less disk space. So far happy with it, but don't know if it's actually good at removing the duplicated images. It's freeware.
