Windows 7: System Files Scattered on Different Drives Problem

System Files Scattered on Different Drives Problem

With view hidden/system/suffix the system/boot files that are available at the drive where Windows 7 is installed is DebugTraceAP.log hiberfil.sys (not sure if this is for Windows) and pagefile.sys. The rest of the non-folder Windows System files are scattered throughout my other drives.

AUTOEXEC.BAT, boot.ini, bootmgr, CONFIG.SYS, IO.SYS, MSDOS.SYS, NTDETECT.COM, ntldr are located at drive D. Last time I tested before I formatted yesterday due to forcefully deleting the system files in my other drives, there were 3 drives that cannot be removed even though these drives don't have any programs in them just some of my archives.

Is there a way for Windows 7 to only use the installed Windows drive for all the system files?

What do you mean, can not be removed ? Just unplug them and reinstall windows.

The "cannot be removed" is not the point.

I just don't want Windows 7 to scatter the bootmgr and the other files on different drives since I sometimes need to place my archive drives on different computers.

On my 6 internal drives, I can't remove 3 of them since Windows 7 places boot-required files on my other drives. Btw. I only place Windows on drive C: like everybody else.

Nearly all of those things you listed are stuff Windows 7 DOES NOT USE. The .SYS files and .COM files are old relics from old Windows installations that are not even used in Windows 7 or let alone created. Also Windows would not scatter its system files around but on the drive it is installed. So something is quite odd about your configuration.

These are the "system files" and folders that I see in the drives except for C:\(where the Windows folder resides):

Drive D:
"Boot" folder
AUTOEXEC.BAT
boot.ini
bootmgr
CONFIG.SYS
IOS.SYS
MSDOS.SYS
NTDETECT.COM
ntldr

Drive H:
"RECYCLER" folder (not $RECYCLE.BIN but it's also there)

Drive J:

"Boot" folder
"RECYCLER" folder (not $RECYCLE.BIN but it's also there)
bootmgr
BOOTSECT.BAK
Windows 7.Id
YBTXW

At "Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management":

-Drive J is listed as Healthy (System, Active, Primary Partition) which is not a partition
-Drive H is listed as Healthy (Logical Drive) which I guess is ok since it's a partition of Drive C:

I just want to remove the dependency of Windows on Drive J:. I can't remove the drive because Windows 7 won't boot.
