problem with windows explorer on shutdown/showing 5gb of memory instead of 12?

when I go to reboot my computer, it seems to hang on explorer IE - a folder being open. It will give me a screen that asks if I would like to kill the task(s) and then I believe it asks if I would like to force a shutdown. I say yes to both yet it still hangs. I am forced to reset the computer. I have 2 computers at home doing the same thing. only things in common really are asus mobo/corsair memory/nvidia graphics card... any thoughts?

    (win7 7000 x64 of course)

Have you installed this from asus?

Also , what third-party apps have you installed on both?

Post a screenshot of the wait screen if you can capture one

I am pretty damn sure I have that installed. Never leave home without chipset drivers..however I am unsure if they are the latest...and is probabily a good place to start. I will make sure I have the latest in and report back. I don't even want to start to go into what 3rd party apps I have installed...try 10 billion or so....heh. but my brother had minimal stuff....foobar...(portable version i might add)...actually...I'd be damned if he did actually install anything... besides aol instant messenger....but he probabily has the same driver set as I (or similar to it)

things get stranger from here. If I cancel out the first time and quick from a shutdown, and then re-click in it will shutdown...I guess I will live with that but the other tough thing I've got to stomache here is...why the hell windows only sees 5gb of 12gb installed (bios and CPUZ both see all 12gb but not windows) - in addition to that it fails the WEI assessment.

    edit - weird again...

Manufacturer System manufacturer Model System Product Name Total amount of system memory 12.0 GB RAM
but windows task manager sees "Physical Memory (MB)"

    Total 5110
    Available 3107
