Who is being rude to you ?

I see nothing but people trying to help you.

If you do not have a working dvd drive or a flash drive then you are up a creek.

You could also try installing windows from an external dvd drive.

No I told you thank you for being nice to me and even hit that scale thing. and now that guy that got smart with me is accusing me of yelling at him when i have never even spoke to him.He was the one being rude to me.Not everyone nowadays has even 5 bucks.I think that I have been polite I'm not a rude person by nature at all I just said something to him about the way he posted to me.I think that i should contact the company for my disc and i didnt divuldge details of my private life to him but i did tell him that i didnt have nor could i afford a flashdrive.I just feel yhat the way he spoke to me was very innappropriate and right after his message you responded very nicely.so thats why i made sure to thank you and hit that scale for you for being understanding.the rest of the message was to that other guy.i dont know if he maeant yelling because my caps lock was om but i guess i had hit the button and i didnt realize it until after i posted.i just didnt think it was a big deal.and volunteer or not he shouldnt speak to people the way he just did me.and as a volunteer i was grateful for all help but he doesnt have to help me if he doesnt want to.i would rather not have help that treats me like an idiot or like im beneath him.but im grateful 4 u being so nice because i saw your offer of help while i was crying due to his response.sorry if you thought i was talking about you

    UPDATE:I have Win 7 Disk

I have just recieved a Windows 7 home premium 32bit disk from DocBrown and now that I have this disk I am going to start doing a clean install on my EliteBook.I am going to use the tutorial on it, but any help on programs and hardware and anything else I might need would be much appreciated. Also suggestions on what things to stay away from online so that I wont mess it up once I get it running! Thanks for everyone's help and patience with this technically challenged user.My hope is that very soon with the help of this site that term will no longer apply to me!

Read over the steps for getting a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Remember to make your recovery disks first, then you can either save your HP Recovery and Tools partitions or delete them along with all other partitions to create new one(s) for install. This is explained more in depth in the Notes for HP Owners at the end.

Ask back if you have any questions at all.

Pay special attention to how drivers are handled in Win7. If you connect by ethernet cable the chances are about 75% it will start up ready to connect, about 50% for wireless adapter. So for whichever one you use have the driver in your backup so if necessary you can install it to get online quickly. Find those drivers on the HP Support Downloads webpage for your model.

Then do all of your Important and Optional Updates which should provide most of the rest of your drivers, observing the prompts to restart.

doc sent me a disc and a flash drive and a partition wizard.but i am so confused i went through the steps in the clean install but when i tried to recover hp recovery tools it said they were missing.i finally got it up and running and was doing the updates and then it messed up and windows shut down so i went in my files and looked and it hadnt deleted the old remaining windows files so now im trying it all over again from scratch but im not real sure what to do with the partition wizard and where i use it in the process?

Partition Wizard was only needed if your partitions were messed up on your HD. Sounds like when they upgraded this laptop, the HP recovery was deleted.
