My Elitebook 8530p wont start up windows

Hello, I have an HP EliteBook 8530p that was doing fine until my boyfriend closed it whille I was in the process of downloading a music program. Now when I cut it on it says Windows failed to start it might be a recent hardware or software change. So it tells me to run start-up repair which I did for 4 days straight with no results.I can pull up all of my installed repair software but I cant get into safe mode and when I did that chk thing it said everytjing was ok except for a code 50.all my lights, fan, and hard drive are working.I bought it refurbished and it was already upgraded from Vista 2 Windows 7 home premium.I have tried to get into my BIOS but it keeps asking for a password and I never eveb set one up.It says there are no recovery points or images to restore to and I dont have a Windows 7 disc but do have the license key on my notebook.Any help would be greatly appreciated as I cant afford any replacements.Thank you.

What is the license key for, Vista or 7 ?

According to this, it shipped with Vista.

My mom purchased it for me from EBAY from a place called Tampa Laptop Storefront. It originally had Vista Buiseness OEMAct on it but they upgraded to Win 7 home premium.I dont know a whole lot about pcs. This is my first laptop and I am starting to realize just how advanced and technical this one is and I dont need half of the stuff it has on it.But I am really hoping that this is just a bad case of user error and can be fixed as I have only had it 2 1/2 months. They were supposed to send me the disk but didnt.I have contacted them by email and they responded saying they were going to help get it straight but still no calls or any emails so i'm stuck and technically challenged. Please Help!

Hi Melissa -

First I'd boot and run hardware tests to check your RAM and HD, from the note at beginning of Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start. You may also be able to access HP Diagnostics by tapping the ESC key at boot.

You then can try working through the steps further to try to get Windows 7 started, or skip to run HP System Recovery or get the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 - everything is provided in tutorial.

The bootrec commands are in the troubleshooting tutorial. Now run Startup Repair 3 times after confirming the Active partition.

Confirm the 100mb System Reserved partition is marked Active if you have it, if not confirm C is Active using Option 2 in Mark Partition Active.

Then run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times until Windows 7 starts. If you marked SysRserved active and it won't start after 3 tries, move the Active flag to C to try again x3.

If it won't start this way or using the other steps in troubleshooting tutorial, move on to Factory Recovery option or the Clean Reinstall I linked earlier after rescuiing your files if necessary.
