Really he said!! i thought he were at work and said if he couldnt find the hdd!!

if you cannt find it there, maybe the cables got loose, open your system and tighten them up
Please read all the topic and replies before making a reply.

1) Its a laptop not a PC.
2) It has already been suggested by me that the hard drive has come out of place. He has checked this and made sure it is secure.
3) It does not show in the BIOS meaning the hard drive is broken.
4) He will now need a new hard drive.

can you post a screen shot from your bios here, i dont think it just disappear with one fall. if the falling was this harsh, your lcd would broke either or something like that....
also plug off your battery and leave it for a bout one minute(even push the power key to discharge any capacitor) then check the bios again

Nowhere does the OP say they can or cannot see the hard drive in the bios. Reread the post.

And dropping a laptop DOES NOT necessarily mean the hard drive is damaged.

You need to see if it`s detected in the bios. I told you how to check.

Waiting on your reply.

Hi thanks for your reply. Did you mean take the battery out for a minute and push the power key. The laptop was balanced on two corners to push in the power cable ( faulty D/C jack ) and fell sideways to an upright position.

We need to see the storage configuration listings by expanding that choice in your BIOS.

If the HD is not listed there, What happens when you reinstall the HDD as I suggested? This was to be your next step.

If HD is in fact detected, then boot the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan to check the condition of the HD.

Hi took the drive out and reinstalled. Drive not found in BIOS and wouldn't boot from recovery disc saying drive not found. One thing though the little light on the front display of my asus notebook is on which means HD is on if i am correct

It may be the battery charging or CPU activity LED. Try another HDD. You can buy one in a shop or google the specs on the drive to see what Google Shopping offers when you order it by lowest price. I'd also google the PC model + hard drive replacement to see other alternatives suggested. You can always ask back here from our hardware experts, or consult your local shop for advice. You already know how to reinstall the HD.

to check your current HDD, try to install it in another computer, like a pc, connect the power and the data cable to check if it could be recognized in that way.
if you need help on that ask.

when you turn your computer on, do you hear the voice of the HDD,? is it normal , dont you hear some extra noise like bip or something?
