windows 7 search

I had, as a workaround for a miscellaneous issue (involving duplicate filenames), inserted "zzz" into certain filenames to keep them separate and allow windows to copy/merge onto my c:drive.

now, I want to find all those files...but if I try a simple search using windows 7 "zzz" in certain folders, nothing appears. even though, I can clearly see those files if I do a manual search through sub/folders...eg. I narrowed it to one folder, and searched the contents of that folder (having only a dozen or so files), I can see the file with "zzz", but the search none-the-less fails.

can anyone help explain/understand why?
and how to fix/resolve?

thanx

What about wildcard entry *
if you have put zzz on the end of file names a search for *zzz should return all those files

Have a look at this

that seems to work, thanks.
I was of the understanding that the windows search is (or at least used to be) any part of a filename...eg. the filename is flashzzz.xls, whereas searching "flash" (without wildcards)finds the file no problem.
not a big deal as now I know to include them, but would you know why the search behaviour is like that?
again, thanks.

The search function was a lot better in XP i think thats what your probably used too somewhere between XP and 7 they changed it around a bit, change for the worse in my opinion but it does help narrow down some searches in some instances

Glad you got it sorted
