Missing / No Right Click Menus.

After installing and then uninstalling (because of BSOD) the fubar'd security patch from last week, I now can not get right click menus anywhere. Nothing happens when I RT click. I've googled and gotten many hit on single missing items but nothing on all missing items.

It seems my registry is broke, under.
HKCR\AllFileSystemObjects\shellex it contains "(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)" that's all

    HKCR\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers "REG_SZ (value not set)"
    \DesktopDockShellExt "REG_SZ (value not set)"

Then several apps have there menus add on listed all with data in them. It seems to me I'm missing some data points in these registry blocks. Dose anyone know what is supposed to be in there?

Hello Indie, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Are you able to expand (double click on) the HKCR\AllFileSystemObjects\shellex key to have the ContextMenuHandlers and PropertySheetHandlers subkeys under shellex?

As a test to see if your context menus may just be disabled instead, see if using step 1 in OPTION ONE of the tutorial below may be able to help afterwards.

Yes there are a couple of sub headings (see below) I notice that there seems to be a history or older settings list at the bottom that has "keys" in it that are missing from the current settings could this be the problem?

I tried the test and still no joy wit rt clicking.

I got this by exporting the registry.

    Code:

The registry entries look intact, so you might consider a repair install.

Do you have the restore point that windows makes before installing updates (the one from when the update was first installed not one from your uninstall), if so I'd try that first.

The restore point right before the bad update was installed did not work I had to go back one more point to get windows to start up again. I could try going back another one but not sure that would make a difernce as this was not a problem even with the bad update,

Did you install any programs or toolbars? If so one of them may have messed with your right click. Scan with MalwareBytes and if nothing found... I'd do as Brink suggested and do a repair install.
