Computer randomly shutting off

Recently my computer randomly shuts off, then it tries to turn itself on by itself and it keeps rapidly turning on and off like simultaneously, after like 10 sec it finally shuts off, during the on and off process the power light blinks yellow to white. It can take little as 3 hours before it happens to a whole day, so during all that time i am mostly playing WoW or League of Legends, so the 3 hours to a day seems odd in when it does it. It only happens when i am watching a movie or show or playing a game. If i just leave my computer alone it never does it. I have a cpu temp program and gpu temp program and the temps are no where near the max temp. I will be reformatting my computer tomorrow but would like to know what the problem is if someone one can help me out, in case its a dying power supply or something.

Is this a laptop or a desktop? What your describing sure sounds like an overheating issue, especially since you say it only happens with intensive software like games and movies.

Desktop, but the temp software says it is not though, so wierd.

right now gpu with wow at max settings is 60 and cpu is at 44. they max out at 70+

i turned my gpu fan on 100% cuz u might be right i will have to monitor it more closely with heavy load. It was at 60 temp with 40% load, so that seemed high but since i put fan at 100% it is only at 50 temp. It was happening everyday recently once or twice so if it doesn't do it then it could have been the gpu maybe.

It's a desktop...great...have you checked for clog fans and heatsinks on the cpu and gpu? Even though the temps say you're ok but dust/lent buildup on the fans and heatsink can slow the fans down and generate enough heat build up to cause such problems.

Next I would make sure you have all your drivers updated, in particular your chipset driver and your gpu driver

Also, could you fill in your system specs in your profile area, this would greatly help with locating the correct drivers and software you might need.

I updated my chipsets, cleaned out my case, and so far hasn't shut down on me, i also deleted 800 gigs worth of just crap to. never even thought about updating the chipset tbh haha, idk if windows update does it for me or not but had my pc for 2 years and never updated it manually.

I am back, i reinstalled Windows 7 and my computer is shutting off more and more now. most of me thinks it is the Power supply, going to have to test another one if i can find one. But I can't watch streams, play any games, watch any shows. or it will shut off. I have core temp, evga precision, i used cpuid hwmonitor and all of it says my cpu and gpu are running at cool temps. 50C or below when it crashes. I got a beat up surge protector but i doubt that would be the cause. It seems when my computer wants to use the power of the cpu and gpu i don't think the power supply is able to power it for long and it shuts off to protect the computer. does that sound reasonable?
