Shortcut won't open a window maximized

A shortcut to an Excel spreadsheet opens it as a window. Yet I have the shortcut properties "Run" field set to Maximized. I've tried maximizing the window once it's opened, then closing the program by clicking on the "X" in the upper right corner, using shift-click on the X (someone said once that this was supposed to help), and using Exit from the File drop-down menu, but it still opens as a window the next time I try it. Why doesn't a shortcut set to open a window maximized open the window maximized? How can I get it to do so? Thanks for any help.

welcome to the seven forums

what version of office are you using?

excel has multiple windows:
one for the excel app and one for each worksheet

does the shortcut fail to open excel itself maximized or a worksheet within the excel window?

I'm using Office 2010. It's Excel itself that isn't maximized.

In the meantime, I've discovered the problem is more complex than I realized. The particular spreadsheet is password-protected. I temporarily disabled the protection and found that then Excel did load maximized. Once I put the protection back in place, it reverted to a window.

So I guess the question is, why does Excel refuse to open maximized when it's loading a password-protected worksheet?

Hmmm, I see the same behavior in Office 2010.

It seems to be the popup asking for the password that messes up the full screen option.

Try this:
put the password back on the workbook
open the file
enter the password
resize the window to be as big as you can by dragging the edges (do not use the maximize button)
close the excel app (anyway you wish)

now open it again - it will not be maximized, but maybe it will be close enough.

Yes, that's a decent workaround. Thanks!
