Can I provide Win7 DVD to customer if I use OEM?

I've built a dozen PCs for myself and family members, but now I have a paying customer that wants a new PC with Windows-7 installed.

I have my OEM copy and can easily install & register it for them, but I'd like to provide them with their own copy of Win7 on DVD. My OEM copy is too big to fit on a normal DVD and I'd rather not give them an OEM disc anyway.

Is there a way to provide them with a DVD of Windows-7 after I install my OEM copy, or must I purchase the "full" version for $125 just so they have a physical copy?

If the customer is paying you to install Windows 7 with their own DVD copy, then they should pay for it.

    Hello Mugsy,

Your OEM copy and key number will not work on their computer. Is that what you are trying to do?

If you like, you could download an official Windows 7 ISO file at the Dell link below to burn to a DVD for them. They will just need to enter a product key number that they purchased to activate it.

If they do not have a legally purchased key number already, then yes, you or they must purchase a physical copy of Windows 7.

    Hope this helps, :)

Hi Shaun, thanks for the reply.

No, I'm not trying to install using my own key. This is straight legit.

Basically, I want to provide them with a Recovery CD (just for Windows, sans extra software).

Using a DVD created with the ISO at the link I posted above should work nicely then.

Thx. I'm assuming I must then use that copy to install Win7?

You can use a retail Windows 7 installation disc to install Windows 7 on any computer.

What matters is that the Windows 7 installation disc must be the same edition that the product key is for.

For example, you obviously can't activate an installed Windows 7 Ultimate with a Windows 7 Home Premium product key.

I just made Two All-In-One SP1 DVD's ( a 64 bit & a 32 bit) . That way you just have to have a valid Key Code for the version being installed
