    Startup Repair seems to be in a loop ?


    Trying to restore/repair the MBR on my system disk. Was tinkering with Acronis Recover CD and when I gave up and restarted...Windows will not boot.

    I do not even get a OS Boot screen...just the following:
    MBR Error 1
    Press any key to boot from floppy (no floppy in my system)

    Inserted Installation DVD and chose #1...Startup Repair.

    It started right up saying it will look for problems and fix if possible...problem is it's been running for over 30 minutes now...nothing has happened. It does say "attempting repairs"

    If I try to close/stop the operation...I get a "the current operation can not be cancelled".

    What's my next step to try to get Win 7 Pro 64bit to start properly. (I do have BDedit on the C: drive)

    What was it you were trying to repair the MBR for? Do you remember what you did? Did you move the Active flag?

    Confirm the Active flag is on the correct partition (Win7 or it's 100mb System Reserved, preferred if you have it) partition with Mark Partition Active

    then run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times.

    If this fails work through the rest of the steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start

    Somehow while trying to restore via Acronis boot disk I mamaged to remove/delete the C: partition as indicated by Partition Wizard boot disk.

    Have numerous tib files to restore from...but might go ahead and do a clean (re)install.

    My liscened copy tho is the upgrade version and I know that's a little tricky. Which tutorial should I follow to clean install Win 7 Pro 64bit from the upgrade DVD ?

    This is the one you need. Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version Let us know how things are progressing. Be sure to unplug all hard drives from your motherboard, if you have more than one. Only the one that you are installing Win 7 should be connected.

    If you deleted C then you can also undelete it using Partition Wizard Partition Recovery Wizard Video Help.

    If you were trying to restore C with an image however then it would have deleted it anyway. Where were you trying to put the image?

    Perhaps if you'd tell us exactly what you'd like to do we can help you better. Even better would be to attach a camera snap of the PW drive screen before or after you recover C if that's what you want.

    Pretty much am back in business now via an Acronis restore....origianlly I was going to restore to an earlier date but somehow erased the partition and or screwed up the MBR...anyway back up now..

    Per privious posts I was having problems with explorer freezes and/or slow downs...found if I disabled indexing the issue went away...GR posted at that time there's probably more going on than just indexing issues...so

    I'm considering a repair isntall...or just simply starting over with a clean isnqall via upgrade dvd (above)...installation is 2 years old and probley have alot of junk/issues that could be cleaned up with fresh install.

    Yes...Have numerous tib backups and tib file backups dating back from today to a year or so

    You shouldn't have to turn off indexing to get perfect performance, but it depends upon having a perfect install on adequate hardware. If you don't have an image still to get back to an install's perfect state, I'd do it over and then save image as soon as it's set up and running best.

    These same steps to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 will assure a perfect install, while Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor will advise on your hardware adequacy.

    To get the cleanest slate rid of boot sector code which sometimes interferes, I'd wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command before reinstall.
