Pressing “Ctrl+A” on the keyboard to “select all” doesn’t work,

Pressing “Ctrl+A” on the keyboard to “select all” doesn’t work,

I’m wondering why the “Ctrl+A” doesn’t work and all the files are not selected.

    What might be the issue?

Which settings should I change to let it work back as regular?

    Thank you

Welcome to Seven Forums Jamal. What kind of PC is it, a Desktop or a laptop, or?

It may be important to know. Does Ctrl+A not work only in cartain programs, etc. or not at all? If a laptop, try pressing alt+ctrl+fn

Thank you A Guy for the answer.

Mine is laptop, this issue in not with “fn”

For example, in the “windows explorer”, I’m not able to select all the files are contained in the same folder. In general, where such settings are? Where it is said in the system that Ctrl+A is functioning as “select all”?

The "select all" shortcut in Windows Explorer is quite strange because the actual key combination depends on the OS language. Maybe if you have a non-english version of Windows, it has another key combination. To be sure, on the menu bar the actual shortcut is shown.

Thank you Alejandro85 for the answer.

    In my machine:
    · The language is English
    · In my keyboard the Ctrl +A doesn’t require any “fn”
    · The windows is 7 64bits
    · A screenshot is attached

What should I check to let it work?

Pressing “Ctrl+A” on the keyboard to “select all” doesn’t work

    Hi,
I had also this problem with MSWord 2007 and I found a workaround,
since I was missing the SelectAll command under "commands" at the right side,
when I selected "All commands" under "Categories" at the left side and all this under options/customize.

The workaround is to add an icon for "SelectAll" to the "Quick Access Toolbar" in the upper left corner next to the icons for save, undo and redo:

On the same page (Options/Customize) select "All commands" under "Choose commands from:" at the left side.
Then scroll down until SelectAll and mark this line. Then hit the Add button in the midle.
This way you get the SelectAll command into the window "Customize Quick Access Toolbar".
Then don't forget to hit the OK and you're done!
