Boot up problem, HDD and USB!

    Morning all!

    How's everyone today?

So my mum has seemingly done something not-so-fun to her computer, nothing to do with physical damage as all she did was shut the lid to put the laptop into sleep.

First of all Windows 7 wouldn't start up, just automatically loads into startup repair (doesn't give me a choice?!) and then spends forever on that Windows Vista style loading screen. I've left it for an entire night and no movement.

So I assume the Windows install is corrupted in some way shape or form and create a bootable Windows 7 install USB key with the hopes of repairing it through that, but again, it gets stuck on the loading screen!

This seems very weird to me, it therefore couldn't be software related, could it?

    All suggestions welcome!

In the mean time I'm going to dl and create a small Linux bootable CD and see if that works.

    Thanks a lot,
    StubbyHS
