Please Help - Windows 8 upgrade failed-reverted back to Windows 7

This is a new Dell Inspiron N5050 Computer and came with a discount coupon for the windows 8 upgrade. When I thought it was finished downloading - the screen went blank. I waited and waited and then rebooted. When it came back on it stated that the download failed and reloaded Windows 7. When it reverted back to Windows 7, the desktop time/temp icon is gone as well as the scrolling screen icons. I DO NOT WANT THE WINDOWS 8 NOW but I do want my computer to function as it did before. WHAT CAN I DO TO GET IT BACK TO WHAT IT WAS BEFORE? ( also, I do not understand much about computers) PLEASE HELP!!!!

    Try doing a restore.

       Information
We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

Have you rightclicked a blank area of the desktop to choose Gadets, then drag the weather and any other gadgets onto desktop to set them up and position them? That may be all it needs.

As you have a Dell preinstall I'd also look over these steps to Clean Up Factory Bloatware
or get the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If you have an EFI BIOS, you may need to follow the special steps for install to UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums or to Bypass UEFI to Install WIn7.

I went back to Windows 7

I was asked to explain how my problem was resolved for others who might encounter the same problem. One of the replies suggested that I contact Dell Support. I did that and the tech help person reload a few programs and fixed it. I wish I could provide more detail but I do not really understand computers.
Thank you again for your help.
