I think you need to burn the programme to an ISO, so it will boot from disc. Although i'm not sure. This isn't my area. Perhaps someone else can help with this step?.

Incompetents at WD have the Data Lifeguard download link malfunctioning again.

We need to find a good all-purpose HD diagnostics/repair scan to recommend without having to fall back on companies that have their diagnostics download go haywire for another year before they realize it.

Meanwhile I'd use Seagate Seatools DOS ISO version burned to CD using Windows Image Burner.

You can also use Partition Wizard bootable CD to Partition Wizard Check File System and Partition Wizard Partition surface test then also have it available for the steps requiring it in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start

Download the Partition Wizard boot disk
at bottom of downloads list. This will be an ISO file.

Rightclick on the ISO file and choose Open With Windows Image Burner.

Burn to a new good quality CD.

Now boot the CD to Partition Wizard Check File System on each partition, then Partition Wizard Partition surface test to see the condition of your HD. Are there errors in file system, or red blocks showing bad sectors of the HD surface?
