Computer Randomly Shutting Down, No BSOD.

I know usually this points to overheating but my temps and setup point to something else.

For the last 2-3 hours i've been experiencing random shutdowns. No visual cues, no BSOD, just shuts down.

here are my specs (computer only 6months old);

Mobo - MSI 870 G45
CPU: Phenom x4 955
RAM: 12GB DDR3-1600MHz
GPU: AMD Radeon HD6670
HDD: Western Digital WD Blue WD5000AAKS
PSU: Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus RS500-PCARD3 500-Watt

Win 7 home premium 64bit

No overclocks, only BIOS settings changed were the voltages on my ram (over a month ago)

edit: thinking it might be my PSU failing... should i just buy another one? if so what would be compatible>?

btw, eventviewer doesn't point to anything specific just says the shutdown was unexpected and i ran sfc scannow already.

Hello magepker mate just what are the temps of the set up? Did you get teh temps off the BIOS or run some app like Speccy if not try this for the temps and run a scan with your security or an on call scanner and then look at the temps

If it is the PSU then have you checked to volts yet? if not then check out this PSU - Jump Start < DO NOT open the PSU when you do this (in fact you can do this with the PSU in situ) just start the PSU as described then check the individual leads for volts. However this does not mean that if the volts are there the current will be but it is a start. The volts you are looking for are
YELLOW = 12v RED = 5v and ORANGE = 3v (+/- 0.5v) anything significantly below those volts means the PSU is suspect.

When you came back up, did Windows run a chkdsk?
Do you have your pagefile set to zero or disabled? You must have a pagefile set to minimums to get a dump.
Check to make sure your system is set to create dumps.

I don't have the equipment to check the voltage readings on the psu... I used speed fan to check the temps an real temps to double check and all the temps are steady and low, nothing even orange.... (4 case fans and hyper cpu fan, all fans setup for maximium efficiency)

I hve the page file set to windows managed and windows didnt automatically do a chkdsk, should i run one? And should i post a dump?

I read somewhere that if when it shutdowns and i press the power button, if i have to wait then it's most likely a psu issue, is that true?

I was watching a video on youtube earlier, after 10mins it shut down...

Shut downs are caused by processor overheat or power supply failure.

The cpu is definitely not overheating according to readings..... Should i buy a multimeter and check the volts on the psu or should i just buy a new psu? And if so, which one would be compatible to my system?

One thing i forgot, check the motherboard capacitors (black cilinders), see if they are leaky or look inflated...if so, time to replace motherboard...

bought a new psu, seems to have fixed it.... and... ended up buying 16gb of ram... and an ssd... smh.
