Looking for a new laptop £400/£500

I am helping to find a new laptop for a family member to buy who has a budget of £400/£500.
So obviously buying in UK.

The machine would be for general use mainly but could do more if asked.

When I did my research before I bought mine I found Toshiba & Asus were most recommended.

I found this
Buy Toshiba Satellite C855-2EU Laptop, Intel Core i5, 2.6GHz, 8GB RAM, 750GB, 15.6", Silver online at JohnLewis.com

and this
Asus Notebooks - Multimedia Entertainment - Asus K55VD-SX494H Laptop - Asus Laptop - UK Best Deal Sale Laptops Buy Notebook Computer Discount UK - Buy On-Line Laptops and Accessories for Business and Home

Anyone own one of these or could advise?
Thanks in advance.

I much prefer the Asus to the Toshiba.

Asus have better build quality and support.

Infact, I have that same Asus laptop, but with 4gb ram, and 500 Gb hdd.

It's been fine for me.

I use it vising client sites (businesses) to set up and install network equiptment.

Hope this helps.
