Windows 7: How can I protect my Partitions and files from damage

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit SP1 x64
 
 

I have a standard BIOS which is only capable of boot MBR disks.

Originally I had no SSD and the Samsung HDD was primary Boot and the WDC was setup as GPT due to perceived benefits of data security etc.
