    Mouse cursor just spins

I've seen the mouse switch to the spinner when the computer is booting up but I've noticed lately that the computer can be on for hours with nothing running but the mouse just sits and spins. Has anyone seen this? Any ideas why it's doing this?

    A couple of question.
    1. What mouse are you using?
    2. How do you know nothing is running? What method do you use to check.
I'm presuming you are meaning the cursor on your desktop. The little arrow.

Please do this so we know what computer you are using.

    1. Standard USB mouse.
    2. Well I don't have any active windows open. It's just the desktop and any services that initially started that are running.

I would run that but I'm posting on behalf of a friend. He doesn't live in town so I can't just run over and run it.
