Windows won't boot and Startup Repair gets stuck!

    Hello,
I have a Samsung laptop with Windows 7 64 bit and AMD A6 Vision processors. It doesn't really have a specific model name- at least not that I can find- but the sticker on the bottom says "MODEL: NP305V5A." I use it for gaming and schoolwork, and up until yesterday it worked fine. Yesterday, I used it a little in the morning then put it to sleep because I knew I would be gone for a while. I got back at around six and pressed the power button to wake it from sleep but the screen stayed black and nothing happened. I tried to boot it up, but it just sat there for about an hour stuck on the "Starting Windows" screen. I ran Samsung's startup repair utility, and that took about an hour to start then just sat there for the longest time on it's loading screen, telling me to "Please Wait..."
Today, I tried using the system repair tool on the Samsung "System Recovery Media" disc (not sure if it's a manufacturer disc or not, but it's only disc the came with the computer), and it got to the system repair screen then just sat there "Searching for Windows Installations." The same thing happened when I tried it again. I tried it a third time and the startup repair window did not even come up.
Though I know it would work, I don't want to reinstall Windows, because the small amount of personal files I have on there are very important and not backed up. While it's still under warranty, I don't want to send it away to be fixed as that would take about 4 to 6 weeks or longer, and I need it desperately!

Please help, if you can. I have my old Dell laptop as a backup, but it's slow and I really need the stuff off my Samsung!

Hello Doctor K and welcome to Seven Forums.

One of the Forum experts prepared a couple of troubleshooting tutorials that may help. They are time consuming but have helped many if all steps are followed.

Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot

    Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

Or you could consider this an opportunity to do a superior performing clean reinstall.

Burn the DVD from Step 5 in the first tutorial linked above to boot it and run Startup Repair repeatedly no matter what it reports. Then report back what it reports.

If it won't repair then start at the top of the Steps since it may not repair until disinfected, or if the System Reserved or C partitions is not correctly set Active.

The steps also provide means to rescue your files, and as a last resort run Factory Recovery from your Samsung's Recovery method or to get the superior Clean Reinstall which Lee also linked above.

    Problem Solved

Thanks for the help, but it is unnecessary. I tried everything except booting in safe mode, and when it did not, the Windows startup repair stored on the computer (not on the repair disc) started and my computer booted up a couple hours later. So, now I feel like an idiot.

    Thanks anyway
