Window 7 explorer search .rar files

My windows search is not showing up .rar files as its results (I think I remember them showing up before), I checked the folder options and index options but both search for compressed files and indexing .rar is checked

Is this a registry problem or something else? please help

I think that you may have to do this:

Search - Have More Accurate Search Results

    1. Right-click the Start button
    2. Choose Properties
    3. Click the button labeled "Customize..."
    4. Scroll down while looking for "Search other files and libraries" (it has 3 options underneath this heading)
    5. Select either "Search with public folders" or "Search without public folders". I don't use public folders, so I chose "Search without public folders"
    6. Click OK
    7. Click OK
It should work after this because if I choose "Don't search" instead of "Search without public folders" (or even instead of search with), then I can't pull up any .rar files with the Start Menu search.

Compressed files are the Windows Compressed Folders (.zip files, but only if they're a Windows Compressed Folder).

    Instead of searching .rar try
    *.rar in the search box

From my post above, if the "Don't search" option is selected, then *.rar doesn't pull up anything either. One of those two other options must be selected in order to make Windows search for "other files and libraries". Try it and see: select "Don't search" and then try to search for things like .rar files.
