    Assigning drive letters


    i am not sure which forum this belongs in, so please move it to the correct forum if required.

    I am in the process of preparing my pc to migrate to a SSD.
    I am trying to relocate various files. I have a primary partition E, labeled 'Data', about 9GB, which I want to copy to a different HDD. The copy partition and contents worked fine, but I have a problem with drive letters

    How can I use the same drive letter on the new partition?

    I assigned the letter H, but I want it to be assigned the letter E so existing applications will continue to work.

    Hello Ed,

    You could use OPTION TWO to change the drive letters. If E is already being used, then you'll need to assign it a different letter before being able to assign E to the new partition.

I'm trying to assign a drive letter on a second partition I have on a 128gb card, but I'm having problems. I'm using a third-party software (MiniTool Partition Wizard Pro) and still not able to do it. I'm trying to have one partition as FAT32 and the other NTFS. Is it possible?

Alright, so my Windows 7 recently quit assigning drive letters automatically. I frequently plug in new hard drives to the system using various USB to IDE or SATA adapters and now when I plug in a new hard drive with any of these USB adapters, it does not get a drive letter assigned to the volumes...

Hi, Recently I have found that when I attach an USB drive to my system I have to go into "Administrative Tools -> Computer Management - Disk Management" and manually change the 'Drive Letter and Path' for the drive. Does anyone know how to get Windows to assign a drive letter to the USB...
