Win 7 on HDD and Win 7 on SSD
Not wanting to use dual-booting - will I have problems switching SATA connections to run Win 7 Pro from a recently installed SSD and then from a HDD? This until I am satisfied with the transition to the SSD.

You wont even need to switch SATA connections. You can just change the boot priority in your BIOS every time you want to switch.

That would be best so you can format the hard disk drive later on. Unplug the hard drive b4 you do the install to the SSD. Afterward, plug it back in, Then, as 2cables said, you can choose which one you want to use through the bios. And, you can set which one you want to be the default operating system.

I had forgotten about that method.
Wouldn't it cause a problem with each drive having an 'active' boot partition?
Will the BIOS give me a heads-up to select which drive to boot?

Yes, they would both be active, but it doesn`t matter. Which ever 1 you pick or have as default is gonna boot, or you can have 1 turned off.
It`s not gonna give you a heads up, you have to remember. Your gonna have the ssd set 1st in the bios right ?

I'm not sure, but I don't think the BIOS will know the drives are partitioned. I think it will still treat them as whole drives.
