My thoughts are if a company, in this case Malwarebytes allows their program to be download by some other site, in this case Cnet they do it with a agreement of what can or can not be added to Malwarebytes download.
Then again if company BBB allows the site to add things to BBB's download for money BBB want part of the money generated.
That is one of the reasons one must watch carefully of all downloads. You never know what agreement has been made with what company with what download.

The purpose of my thread is not to tell anybody where to get their downloads from but rather to be very careful when downloading anything from any site.

You'll need to check for Add-on's to the browser as these spyware head right for the browser controls to insinuate themselves deep in the registry so some can keep spying even if disabled.

SUPERAntiSpyware.com - Downloads is best at rooting them out.

the cnet installer had multiple toolbars and such ,gave me the option to uncheck 2 of them but installed one without my knowing ,took me a bit of work to remove the tool bar and stop it from taking over my home page in IE and firefox ,but it all gone now

It was likely deep in the End User License Agreement (EULA).

That is why I no longer use CNET. I use FileHippo.com - Download Free Software and SourceForge - Download, Develop and Publish Free Open Source Software
I seem to remember a while back some companies (Neosmart Technologies makers of Easy BCD springs to mind) told CNET to remove their crapware form their download as it was against Neosmarts EULA.

It sounds like this is getting worse for the user, not better.
I quit using/trusting that site a long time ago because of this problem.
    An old article about this:
Download.com wraps downloads in bloatware, lies about motivations | ExtremeTech
Yep, no more CNET for me.

    Thanks all.

Ya just gotta be careful with all downloads(DL). Googlecrap is very intrusive and has it's BS bundled in several good downloads. Some DLs even from the source company have crapware bundled too, Piriform (CCleaner) is one, they want to install a toolbar or search provider.
