You haven't said how you upgraded from Win XP to Win 7?

Hi,

Sorry for the delay!
Yes, it happens in applications too like in the a text document!
I do not use the keypad but a bluetooth mouse.

And this is a new laptop (with the original Win7-64 bit). I had another one running XP sp3 and never had this issue!

Thanks,
paulo

Is the touchpad on your laptop disabled?

I purchased a legitimate upgrade disc and used it to do a clean install of Win 7.

Press Fn Key and Numbers Lock
Why? That has no effect on the touchpad.

Hi md2lgyk,

The erratic cursor movement may be due to missing/corrupt 'Touch pad drivers'. Did you install the 'Dell Touch pad' drivers after migrating to 'Windows 7'? Please confirm the current status in 'Device Manager'. Prior to installing the driver, 'Device Manager' registers a 'generic PS/2 device entry'. Installing the driver changes the entry, as shown below:

In either case, you may try updating the drivers using the following link:Driver Details | Dell United States
- Follow through to complete the installation

Note: 'Vostro 1000' is tested to work with 'Windows XP / Vista 32 bit'. The driver that I've shared may/may not optimally work with 'Windows 7' and may cause compatibility issues.

Once the driver is installed, you may also want to work with the 'Touch pad settings':
- Click 'Start icon' > Type 'Mouse' in 'Search Programs and Files' text-box > Tap 'Enter' (Refer to the image below)

Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings; would be glad to assist.

Little point in me responding to this thread if you are not prepared to try the suggestions! BTW very, very few laptops have a numeric keypad, that's why you have the Fn key. I suggest you read up on "How to use the FN key on a laptop"!

Bazaar mouse cursor behavior
Running win7 all updates current. I've been noticing something that seems really bazaar to me. I've never seen it before. I haven't figured out what confluence of circumstances cause it but what I see is shown in the two sets of images attached. In these images the scheme I have set is the...

Annoying little text...
So I customized my own login screen, and everything's great.. But I noticed a teeny-tiny flaw. As seen on my attachment, I have that annoying little "locked" everytime I go to the login screen, and it really messes up my minimalistic style. I've tried tons of things, and even asked help from...

Annoying explorer behavior
I have been using WIN7 build 7000 for about 6 months. Generally very happy and stable. One rant, however: In windows file explorer, when I click on a folder, the whole file tree jumps around in a bizarre and distracting way. I have to hunt around for my folder before I proceed. Am I missing...
