    Clarification

Which component of a "Dell System" constitutes it still being Dell. I replaced my dell mobo with a modified Gigabyte, modified to fit my "DELL" case. I asked for help on this forum and was told my installation was counterfeit becasue i used the gigabyte mobo on an installation of a "Dell Oem Win " all other components are the originals from DELL. So please moderator explain why you removed my help request or clarify.

As soon as you change the motherboard, it`s a Gigabyte board in a dell case. Technically not a dell anymore. Better then a Dell.

You can`t use a dell oem key on a gigabyte mb, it`s not legal.

You need to install a retail copy of windows.

The only thing original about a dell is the motherboard, and they are garbage.

You can change anything you want if you have a retail version of windows. If you were still using the dell mb, then you`d be fine.

And you can change any component you want on the original motherboard, but you removed the original motherboard.

Do you understand better now ?

With OEM there is no problem with changing RAM, graphics/sound card(s), drives. The motherboard is a different matter though (and I suspect that this covers the CPU as well).

Your not using a dell mb anymore, why would you buy a dell disc ?

I told you, you have to buy a full retail version of Windows 7. Or, now here`s the tricky part, you can buy an upgrade version of windows 7 ( much cheaper ) if you have a qualifying version of xp or vista with key, not installed on any other machine.

And, Yes the oem dell key is linked to the dell mb. If you got an exact replacement mb for the dell case, your oem key would activate the original version of windows and your pc would be fully legal again.
