occasional overnight hibernation

The following problem started occurring over the last few weeks.


A few nights each week my Windows 7 Pro (64-bit) laptop randomly decides to hibernate.

I use a docking station, the power cord is always connected, the laptop lid is always closed, and I "lock" Windows every evening.

I have configured Windows Power options to NEVER automatically hibernate.

The Windows System Event Log contains no suspicious entries (other than the Kernal-General “system time has changed” and the Kernal-Power “entering sleep” entries that also accompany a normal hibernation requested via the Shut down button).

What's the setting for closing the lid or pressing the power button in Power Options?

May I ask why you don't use the modern Hibernate feature which is perfected in Win7 and a great convenience? Everything can be left out and is saved to HD before shut down, then starts 3x faster.

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\System Settings:

Power button: sleep.......sleep
Sleep button: .sleep.......sleep
Close lid: .......sleep ......do nothing


("use the modern Hibernate" ? not familliar, don't want to hibernate at all over night)

My point is that Hibernate is perfected in Win7 so for those with XPired worries about it they should try it to see how convenient it is to leave your work out and have it saved, still get a shut down, and a bonus of faster startup. That's all.

Have you gone into Advanced Power settings for your plan to see that Hibernate is set to Never?

"Hibernate after" is set to 360 minutes for both "On battery" and "Plugged in"

(my occasional overnight hibernation seems to occur at more random times)

changed "Plugged in" to Never - we'll see if that will solve my issue
