Worth trying to upgrade RTM with PartyPack Ultimate?

Does anyone think it might be possible to upgrade the RTM by doing a Repair/Upgrade install with the disk (comiing tomorrow!) for the Win7 Ultimate Signature Edition given to Launch Party givers?

It IS the same version (with some possible goodies thrown in) and a repair (upgrade over itself) install does overwrite the code while saving programs/settings, so ideally it would reactivate using the Sig Edition license key and be able to preserve my RTM installation which I like a lot.

    Just askin.... Thanks.

You will be lucky if you GET any EXTRAS with the PartyPack Ultimate Disk.

With Vista the Super Duper Signature Version was nothing more that a
RTM version in a fancy case with Bill Gates Signature on it...

I would be very grateful just to be able to license the RTM version I have now which is running perfectly, which is why I ask if anyone sees a path to use the Party disk to do just that. Since it seems to be arriving starting tomorrow, maybe we will know for sure soon.

Well if you already have ultimate rtm installed, I don't see why you couldn't certainly use the key you will be getting from the Signature edition to activate it.

Just right click "computer" click on properties and in the box that comes up scroll down and click change product key or whatever is shown down there on an unactivated version and input the new product key.

    Harpua, yes, obvious first try.

The repair install is just to pick up any new code/extras that the Sig. Edition has in it, and perhaps make the product agree with the license key.

Wouldn't the HASH comparison between the Signature Edition and RTM be the clincher that they are one and the same?

You must live close to Earth City, Missouri. Only arrived at the SoCalif UPS terminal at 6:35 am this morning.

Air beats ground every time (That's how I prefer to get to Germany, anyway!)

Yes, if the hashes were the same, then that would assure that there are no differences.

I don't see why a repair install wouldn't work either, but it should not be necessary. The key that's coming in the party pack should work to activate any Ultimate RTM edition. And windows allows you to change the product key anytime you want, assuming you have another valid product key for your version. It has nothing to do with the particular disk you used to do the install. The key is not tied to the installation media.
