    Found 2 files with an unusal extention, need input.

    Greeting;

    During my latest round of file maintenance, I came across 2 files with a weird sort of extension: .Lck. Curiosity led me to another marathon stretch of google-ing for information - much of it contradictory - and left me more exhausted than educated.

    Some sites said it's a device for locking a data base, and others swear it's some sort of malware. I swept my system with both the standard Malwarebytes scan & their anti-rootkit utility and came out squeaky-clean, but I'd still like to know what I have before I just toss them out. So naturally, this was the first place I thought of if I wanted to get a straight, no bull answer.

    I won't attach them to the post, but here's what I found:

    MS.WINWORD.12.1033_1033_MValidator.Lck
    Hx_1033_MValidator.Lck

    I found them both at C:\ProgramData\Microsoft Help and they share the same basic properties (see attached .gif). The files scan clean, and if they are some sort of evil thingy, they're likely to stay that way, 'cuz I have no clue how to open them.

    TYIA......

    p.s.: that number - 1033 - has been popping up all over my most recent crash & BSOD reports. Creepy, ain't it?

    1033 = US English

    If you wonder about a file, upload it to virustotal or one of these sites.

    Those look like "lock files" to prevent race conditions if multiple instances of the software attempted to work on the same thing.
