I've had a temporary solution to my problem. I used a portable version of the latest Pale Moon x64. This required a fresh install of my add-on's and their settings into the portable folder.

As I understand it, Firefox has the old engine and the ionMonkey engine working side-by-side. There are also UserInterface changes. Add-on's in the profile may pass certain criteria but still interfere and struggle with the changes. That's my perspective for now, until I do more experimenting and transitioning into the non-portable version.

I don't have enough to fully look over your speccy post this morning but I do see that you have AVG 2013 installed. I do know that AVG can cause some performance issues and isn't regarded as very reliable around here. I recommend replacing is with either Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast.
I'll take the advice about anti virus into consideration, thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll take a look into it and see what I can solve!

your system specs say Win7 x64. I might have missed it if you only posted it, but are you running Win7 x64 SP1? Please update your specs or update your system. Thanks

I suggest that you delete your original profile and create a new one.
I had a problem with FF4 that was only solved by deleting my original profile and then creating a new profile.

If Lehnerus2000 suggestion doesn't help, see if any of these help (support.mozilla.org)
There might be more than one prefs.js files (delete preferences in the reset Firefox preferences help link)
