Have you tried simply removing the drive letter for 8 when you`re in 7 and vice versa ?

Had I been there, I would not have used GRUB. It sometimes damages the windows installation beyond repair.

The best practice to have two different operating systems is to install them in two different physical drives. Set your primary os to boot first in the BIOS boot order, and use the other one by using the boot menu key during booting. Coz even boot manager may be problematic if either of the installations corrupt..

If you dont have two physical disks, install them in two different partitions ... let boot manager manage the dual boot .. and follow AddRAM's suggestion to remove the drive letters manually.

If in future there is a trouble, it will minimize those troubles than using grub.

This would be the easiest and safest solution. Just go to Disk management for each OS and remove the drive letter for the other OS. The drive letters are OS-specific, so it shouldn't interfere with the OSs themselves.

If you are that concerned about isolating the OSes, you might want to consider virtualization instead.
