Windows 7: PC freezes randomly

PC freezes randomly

Hi. So I have this problem for a long time and it really bothers me.

PC spec:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ 2.6 GHz
2 GB of RAM
32-bit Operating System
Display Adapter: nVidia GeForge 8400 GS

So here's the thing: my computer freezes randomly when using it, and by freezing I mean I can't do anything (press a key, move mouse) and screen just remains frozen. Nothing happens and I have to restart it. I have all the drivers installed. I have this problem for some time (more than 6 months) so I can't really relate it to a certain program that I installed.

If it helps in any way, I noticed that the freeze occurs often when I browse the internet (using Firefox).

Any clues on this?

Hmmm... Try another browser for a while just to make sure. I had the same problem when I was playing a videogame and I'm 100% sure it was game fault. I did some search on the web and found that a lot of people with FF 15 are experiencing the same issue. FF 15.0.1 repeatedly freezes my entire computer; can't forcequit; need power button to shut down/restart; completely random, not an addon issue. | Firefox Support Forum | Mozilla Support
Check if you have the latest version, 18.

Run this anti-malware program -> Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer
And some anti virus that you have installed

Also, you may want to do a Repair Install

Altrough this sounds more like a overheating problem. If I overclock my CPU too much, it also freezes after a while. Check your CPU/Motherboard temperatures before doing a Repair Install

Hi Ricky, thanks for your feedback. I'll definitely try to use another browser for awhile just to check if firefox is causing the problem. I can say that it's definitely not a heating problem because sometimes it happens 2 minutes after I start the PC, and sometimes I run it for 10 hours and not crashing.

If you haven`t yet, reinstall the graphics driver. Make sure you choose custom/clean install.

Here they are.

FF version 19 came out a few days ago.

Have you checked your hardware?

If you are going to play around with your PC's internal components, remember to turn the power off and to take anti-static precautions.

Have you checked your RAM?

Have you checked your Event Viewer under Windows Management? This might give you a clue as to what's going on behind the scenes.

Ok so: I did a registry clean and also few days ago nVidia pointed me to do a driver update for my graphics card. Also I updated Java to the latest version and the problem seems to be gone at least for now.

What "registry clean?" Who advised you to clean the registry, and with what tool did you do this?

Most registry cleaners are scams that ruin Windows 7. Please clarify exactly what you did.

Did you actually follow any suggestions made here?
