Windows 7: Keyboard randomly stops working.

Hi thelastbonbona,

It may not be an issue with the keyboard at all. You may try using a good-known keyboard with the system, if available; will help you to isolate the keyboard as the possible root cause. Alternatively, you may use this keyboard with another system to see if the issue duplicates.

If no extra computer/keyboard is available, you may check the 'keyboard/system' performance in 'Safe mode'. It is a diagnostic mode and may help us isolate if a 'program' is causing interference.

Do reply with the findings; will take it forward from there.

Hi thelastbonbona,

It appears that the system is freezing up randomly. This could happen due to old/incompatible drivers, depleted memory resources, many filter drivers, Memory Corruption, Hardware failure or Operating System bugs.

Please refer to the following tutorial to start the system in 'Safe Mode': Safe Mode
If the system does not freeze up in that environment, it is likely to be an 'Operating System' issue (software related); will check the 'system file logs' in that case to find out the culprit.

You may also try tapping the key combination <Control><Alt><Delete> to launch 'Task Manager' to find out if any process/program is responsible for very high CPU usage.

If the issue persists in 'Safe Mode', it may indicate a 'hardware issue' and we will run diagnostics on the suspected hardware components to see if proves something.

Though it looks very unlikely, would request you to try using this keyboard with another computer to ensure that keyboard is not a point of failure.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings; will take it forward.

Hi thelastbonbona,

You may try using a good-known keyboard whenever available.
In the mean while, please try the steps that I shared in the previous post; will be worth a shot.

Assuming that the keyboard currently being used is properly functional, we may get some useful clues from these steps.

Do reply with the findings; would be glad to assist.
