Benefits of Win7 SP1? - if any

Hi all - somewhere down the line Win7 SP1 managed to get removed - obviously something I did somewhere. Have tried the update route and it comes up with the infamous 80073712 error. Have run Windows6.1-KB947821-v26-x64.msu with Avast and Malwarebytes disabled. Then tried to apply windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe (the SP1 update file) - still no luck so the only option is a repair install.

Before that though my PC is running just fine with all updates applied apart from SP1. Are there any real world benefits to going down a repair install simply to get SP1.

Any input appreciated - regards

Thanks for the link(s) - took the hint and did a repair install - now got SP1 installed.

Unfortunately this has lead to another problem P17RunE.dll - new thread started over this.

If you don't have SP1 then you don't have Win7.

It's like a car overhaul: it becomes the engine itself.

Real World Benefits - Win8 v's Win7
I installed Win8 onto a separate partition and I suppose the MetroUI is a matter of personal taste. Personally not really for me but who knows what the final release will be. Maybe Microsoft are testing the waters and if there are enough negatives may give the option for a classic look otherwise as...

Benefits of 64 bit?
Hi-yah everyone, I've got a 64 bit system, and I'm just wondering the things 64 bit can do over 32 bit. I know 32 bit maxes out a 3.5 gigs, so with 64 bit I know you can use all 4 gb for my system, but what are other good things about the x64 architecture? I like asking you guys because you make it...

CPU upgrade benefits?
Just upgraded to 64 bit, new mobo and more RAM. The Mobo supports my AM2 Athlon X2 5400+ but also accepts all AM3 cpu's.. I am looking at a AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 3.2GHz. What sort of performance increase can I expect? My 'heaviest' progs are Photoshop CS4 64 bit, Lightroom 3 64 bit...

Benefits of a CPU upgrade?
I am currently running an Athlon 64 X2 @ 2.7GHz. I notice newer CPUs don't run at a much faster clockspeed but have 3, 4 or 6 cores. If I went to a 4 core CPU at say 3GHz by what % would I expect my PC to speed up? And with 6 cores? Thanks for your responses.
