Strange symptoms of Win 7. Possible infection or hacker???

    Thanks to both of you for the replies.

    I appreciate all the help all of you have given. I plan to format and reinstall as for me I think it will far easier to do. Then create an image.

    How is that in any way useful?
    Just a way of saying that most Windows problems are not the result of virus infections.

    Not helpful in fixing your problem, other than suggesting that you don't spend a lot of time looking for viruses that probably aren't present.

    Thanks to all.

    Reinstall took no time at all, doing all of the updates however has taken many hours

    2 images taken (clean install and then with all updates).

    Job done.
