Windows Explorer crashed every time I clicked on a Picture Folder
Windows Explorer would crash EVERY time. If I tried to do anything with a folder containing a picture.
I'd get the message that Explorer experinced an error and would have to close. Windows would then restart Explorer.
I could open the Pictures folder, but any cut, copy, paste, or move would result in a shut down of Windows Explorer.
I would get a message that an error had occurred.
Windows Explorer would open up again and as soon as I tried to do anything with one of the picture folders, the crash would return.
I've searched the web over and over. Others had the same problem.
All the suggestions from Virus, to defrag, and everything in between did not work for me.
I found the fix by accident. And so far it's working.
The fix was:
Control Panel>Folder Options>View and toggle "Always show icons, never thumbnails"
I had it enabled, turned it off and the problem was gone.
Turned it back on to see if the problem would return, but the problem has NOT returned.
I 'think' it occurred because I moved some picture folders, that displayed a thumbnail into another folder that already had a thumbnail.
By removing the dueling thumbnails, the problem went away.
Doubt this will fix ALL windows explorer problems, but at least it fixed mine.
