If you use VGA then you can of course route the Headphone out from the laptop to AUDIO in on the TV. IMO it's better to use HDMI.

To get the BEST picture -- in the TV's Menu (use the TV's remote) choose Picture settings and select Scan / automatic re-size or whatever.

An Acer laptop should easily be able to provide full 1080p HD output (1920 X 1080) -- your source might not be so good though.
