Acer Laptop: Using For Video To Home TV ?

Hello,

My son and Daughter-In-Law have an Acer Laptop 4810tz-4474.

They have a lot of videos that were put on a SanDisk USB Memory Stick, that plays back just
fine thru the Laptop Screen, but would like to also be able to play them back thru their home TV.

Videos are the typical home quality videos taken with a JVC Camcorder.

Their TV, if I remember right, has (some sort of) an HDMI input.

Neither are very "technical", so what I'm after is the simplest setup for them.
I won't be able to help them (not in the same area) with the setup, so will have to be very "simple".

The Acer apparently has an HDMI output Port. (Specs say "With HDCP Support")
Also an External Display VGA Port. (labeled as 3X VGA)

But, am not at all sure if this VGA Port would be suitable for outputting to a TV ?
Would it, or is it only for an external PC Monitor ?

So, what cables (hopefully on the inexpensive side) would you suggest that I get, probably from Amazon, for them ? A simple hookup, and making it all work, for them is really important.

What should I get for them: HDMI or VGA cables (if it'll output to TV) ? Or,...?

And, what kind of Male and or Female genders on the ends ? They wouldn't know what I'm talking about.

Much thanks, as always,
Bob

Well If your tv has a VGA connector on it then you could use this to output from the laptop.

Also if you have a HDMI on the laptop and on the tv, I would use this.

VGA: Will have no sound output on the tv, only on the laptop.

HDMI: Will have both video and sound output on the tv.

Hope this helped you question.

The easy way for them to see if the TV will connect to the laptop is to switch on the TV then on the remote press the key marked "Source" this will show a list and if "Computer" is listed then the TV will have a VGA input and if it says HMDI then it will have an HDMI input. If the TV has one or both of these then connect it up as stated but they will probably need to use the Fn key and I think F4 or F5 to toggle between displaying on the laptop or TV or both!

Yes true. Well on my t.v it has input. which is on a lgtv. More or less also I don't want to be confusing anyone but if you have a smart tv also the tv can connect to your pc true Internet and display picture, videos etc.

EDIT think it is only on windows 7

From OP: A Few More Clarifications, Please

Hi Folks,

Thanks so much for help.
Much appreciated.

If I get the HDMI cable, which I probably will, I see that there are HDMI, mini-HDMI, and a few other variations.

What do I want ?
Just a standard (the ones with the "bigger" connectors ?) ?
Laptop likely have the exact same connector as the TV, or...?

How about gender, for each end; the TV and the Laptop ?

Thanks again,
Bob

It depends on the socket in the TV. The manual for the TV should show the connectors. If they can't find the manual get the TV make and model and one of us will look it up for you!

Well if the laptop has the hdmi connector well and good. It's only just a standard connector. I would go with the hdmi as it has sound also.

According to the manual, it looks like a regular size HDMI port,

A cable long enough with 2 male ends should be all you need.
