Unable to boot, error 0xc000000f, hard drive failure?
Hello everyone. I am going to number my info because my desktop progressively got worse today.
I have a Windows 7 partition and a Windows 8 partition on the HD.
1. At first boot, it was trying to auto repair, but it would get stuck and nothing would happen.
2. After several restarts, it finally booted to the Windows 8 boot select screen to choose 7 or 8, I chose 7. Then it went to "applying update operation" and was updating registries I guess.
3. After that, it just would not boot. After another restart, I got "the boot configuration data for your pc is missing or contains errors." I tried to insert a recovery DVD / installation disk, but nothing would load.
3. Trying to boot from the CD or USB would just freeze and then give the same error, 0xc000000f.
4. From the HP diagnostics tool from boot up, it told me it was an HD error, biohd 8. In my several hours of searching online I believe it could be the HD or the motherboard, but I am not sure how to find out which.
5. Using EaseUS Data Recovery, the software recognizes the 3 different volumes on the drive (Win 7, Win 7 recovery partition, Win 8)
I was wondering if anyone would be able to deduce what is happening here, should I get a new HD or motherboard? Since EaseUS is recognizing all volumes, is it probably the motherboard?
And what it is the best way of formatting the drive and installing Win7 again with a failed HD, if it is the motherboard?
Would appreciate any help, thank you very much.
As a reference as to why I think it might the motherboard, please see here and here.
