Hang on Bootup, Black screen w/ movable mouse, caused by power service

Computer is a HTPC:
MSI E-350 APU/Mobo
8GB RAM
120 GB Kingston SSD

The computer hangs for a few minutes after the black "Starting Windows" screen and before the Logon screen appears. The mouse cursor is display and you can move it around all you want.

Last night, I was able to track down that it was the power service causing this issue, but i can't leave it permanatly disabled as the audio service depends on it.

Oh yea, it's happened after 2 completely fresh re-installs, after windows updates.

Any ideas? What can I do to further narrow this down? Thanks!

You have a SSD.. Is the firmware up to date?

Kingston says there are no firmware updates available at this time, so yes. Plus I have an identical drive in my desktop with no issues.

Thanks!

Hi, how did you determine it was Power Service at fault? I have no Audio service, is yours part of a driver?

I used msconfig to disable half of the computers services, then rebooted. If I was able to reproduce the black screen hang, I enabled half of the remaining service, and so and so forth until I narrowed it all the way down the power service.

I think maybe it depends on the Windows Audio Service? If I have the computer booted with the power service disabled, the volume control won't work and it gives me an error message saying the audio service isn't enabled.

Odd, this is what I show for Windows Audio dependencies.

Try enabling all of the services in msconfig. Also go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings and reset you chosen plan to defaults.

All services enabled in msconfig, and the balanced power plan set to default. Still experiencing the issue

To better help us to help you would you please add your systems specs? Here's the correct way to do it. :SystemInfo See Your System Specs Under System Manufacturer/Model Number add whether it is a desktop or laptop and whether self built. Very important

Log in to Seven Forums and you will be able to transfer the info directly to the specs page in your profile from within the System Info app.

After doing this your specs will be available in each of your posts.
Click on My system Specs in the lower left of this post to see how it should look.
Full instructions are in the tutorial.

Do you have an add-in sound card you've installed drivers for?

Full specs loaded

No add-in card, just the onboard card. It's a custom built HTPC, I guess it's a desktop.

Thanks, nothing glaring stick out in your specs. You can try uninstalling the audio drive and using what looks fairly new. MSI USA ? Motherboard - E350IS-E45
Check your BIOS version too. Be certain this is your board.
