Hi there
I don't think you actually READ my post.

For Very good reason the USB autoplay functionality has been disabled in Windows 7. As I pointed out there *might* be a hack but you are on your own on this one and it really isn't hard to open the USB and double click the file you want.

Cheers

I read your post but Dinesh posted a walk-through to enable the function i thought, i know its not difficult to click open folder is explorer but its just what im used to for the past couple years it has always opened. Also dont want it to automaticly run a certain program i just want it to automatically open the drive in explorer.

The best advice I can give concerning that. Forget about how it was in the past and learn the new way. Otherwise continue to use the old. Sounds rude I know, but living in a world of technology nothing is the same.

You have to understand, what you want is never what happens. You may just want this flash drive to open up in explorer, but the malicious flash drive didn't get that memo.

Actually i found a simple fix, all i had to do was put a picture in the root of the USB drive and when i plugged it in it allowed me to choose "always do this for" so now it opens up just as i wanted. Thanks everyone for the help, loving windows 7 so far .

the real answer

Holy schmoley people. If you don't know, a one word idunno post would suffice. Yes Autorun is disabled for good security reasons, but the poster is talking about AutoPlay. There is currently a bug (ahem feature) in Windows 7 that doesn't save your settings when you tell it to open folder for the various content options (e.g. Mixed content). This only happens when you try to set the setting and then open the folder. Instead, just set the setting and remove your USB (don't try to open the folder yet). Then plug it back it and it should work. Sheesh.

I have exactly the opposite problem - my AutoPlay window never comes up! And it's enabled in the settings window, so I'm not sure why

Hi there

OK guys -- at your own risk. If you want to enable Autorun things like setup then

DISABLE DEP on Windows 7

You need to do this in elevated comand mode as the option is not available in the standard Windows GUI

bcdedit /set nx=AlwaysOff

then re-boot.

(If you wreck / infest your own system -- AYOR).
